This troubling discovery happened while I was browsing Shodan, an internet search engine that highlights security vulnerabilities in connected devices. The IP address indicated that the owner of this webcam is a customer of Rogers Communications, a prominent ISP in Canada.
Feeling a sense of urgency, I decided to reach out to Rogers’ customer support to report the issue. It was my hope that they could help address this alarming situation. Unfortunately, my experience was far from reassuring. After being transferred to a supervisor, I spent nearly half an hour explaining the severity of the situation, only to be advised that I should contact local authorities—both in Canada and Austria, where I reside.
This response left me feeling frustrated and helpless. I firmly believe that the webcam owner must not be aware of their feed being publically accessible. Admittedly, I was skeptical that local authorities could effectively manage such situations, given the international nature of the issue.
What Steps Have I Taken?
In light of this disheartening experience, I took further steps to escalate the matter. I have reached out to several channels for assistance, including:

- Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: I hope their intervention can facilitate a resolution.
- Canadian Centre for Cyber Security: Their expertise might provide crucial support.
- Additional Attempts to Contact Authorities: I tried to reach Canadian authorities using the number provided by Rogers (613-993-7267), but could not get through initially. I plan to continue these efforts and may resort to emergency lines if necessary.

As of January 26, I received positive news: the webcam owner has been contacted, and the video feed is now secured with a password. This swift action was possible thanks to the escalated subject at Rogers, who promised to take my concerns seriously.
I truly appreciate the support and suggestions from community members who have rallied around this issue. It is a relief to see effective measures being taken to protect the privacy of the child involved.
