Troubleshooting an External DVD Drive That Won’t Read Blank DVD-R Discs
I recently purchased an external DVD drive that arrived just a week ago, and today, I decided to put it to the test. To start, I inserted a copy of Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, and to my delight, it recognized the disc without any issues. I even managed to create an ISO file using ImgBurn successfully.
However, when I attempted to use a blank DVD-R, things took a turn. The drive made several audible attempts to read the disc—spinning and whirring—but then it emitted a continuous deep beep. While the disc appears in File Explorer as expected, the drive doesn’t seem able to recognize it as a blank disc.
This leads me to question whether this is a hardware malfunction, a compatibility issue, or perhaps something entirely different. Has anyone else encountered similar problems with external DVD drives? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
