Can I Clone My NVMe SSD to a SATA SSD and Boot with Windows 11?

When it comes to managing storage on your PC, especially if you are navigating through multiple drives, questions often arise about efficiency and performance. Recently, I found myself pondering a similar dilemma – specifically, whether it’s possible to clone my NVMe SSD to a SATA SSD and then use the SATA drive as the boot device for Windows 11. I acquired this desktop from a friend about a year ago, and it currently houses three drives. The primary one is an NVMe SSD, which serves as the boot device and runs Windows 11. This drive has a lot going on, including various AMD chipset drivers, NVIDIA Software, and additional applications, which can sometimes weigh it down.

Additionally, I have a Crucial SATA SSD that was left disconnected inside the case, along with a built-in hard disk drive. While both the HDD and NVMe SSD tend to fill up quickly, I’ve noticed that the NVMe drive performs significantly better during gaming sessions, likely due to its faster speeds. However, I’ve also realized it’s filled to capacity with Windows files and numerous programs that clutter the storage.

The SATA SSD, on the other hand, has never been utilized and my friend has confirmed it was wiped clean before I received the PC. After researching online, I discovered a potential solution: cloning the data from my NVMe SSD to my SATA SSD, subsequently allowing me to use the SATA drive as my Windows 11 boot device.

My friend believes this would work well, suggesting that I could then reformat the NVMe SSD to eliminate unwanted programs and free up space.
