Troubleshooting a Trouble with My AMD RX 580 8GB Graphics Card: Seeking Advice
Hello, fellow tech enthusiasts!
I find myself facing a rather challenging issue with my AMD RX 580 graphics card, and I’m reaching out for some guidance.
Initially, my RX 580 performed adequately for light tasks like web browsing and watching videos during the first few months of use. However, I began to notice some peculiar glitches early on—minor artifacts such as red lines appearing on the screen after prolonged YouTube sessions, or the display inexplicably going dark for a few seconds while enjoying some content. At that point, I encountered occasional notifications from AMD Adrenalin about unexpected errors, but they were infrequent enough that I didn’t feel the need to raise any alarms.
Unfortunately, my experience recently took a significant downturn. Now, under any kind of load, my system consistently crashes. In the video I’ve shared, I demonstrate my setup: the PC is powered on, the monitor functions normally, I open CPU-Z to confirm it’s indeed an RX 580, show sensor data, and then initiate a FurMark stress test. Almost instantly—within just a couple of seconds—my entire system freezes. The monitor locks onto an orange-tinted screen, and neither the reboot nor the reset buttons respond. The only way I can regain control is by holding down the power button for a forced shutdown.
In my attempts to resolve these issues, I’ve taken several steps, including:
- Reinstalling drivers numerous times through both AMD and Windows.
- Experimenting with different HDMI cables.
- Monitoring the temperatures and power supply, which all appear normal right before a crash.
- Removing the GPU and relying on integrated graphics, which work flawlessly.
Currently, I have an offer on the table from AliExpress to provide a 50% refund (approximately $60 USD), and the seller has agreed to cover repair costs. However, I’m at a crossroads. Is this type of failure common with refurbished graphics cards? Could this be a straightforward repair, or does it indicate a more severe underlying issue?
Would you accept the partial refund, opt for repairs, or push for a complete return?
Most importantly:
In your experience, is it worth attempting to repair this graphics card, or do these crashes signify that the GPU is beyond recovery?
