Troubleshooting Internet Connectivity Issues: A Personal Experience

Experiencing connectivity issues can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you’re surrounded by devices that work perfectly while yours remains disconnected. I recently faced a similar situation, and I’m here to share my journey in hopes that it might help someone else facing a similar challenge.

About a year ago, I encountered a significant problem with my internet connection. Despite numerous devices in my home connecting seamlessly to the network, my PC was consistently unable to access the internet, whether through Wi-Fi or a LAN connection. The last time I resolved this issue by manually configuring my DNS settings to use Google’s public DNS (8.8.8.8), but this time, that fix just wasn’t doing the trick.

When I checked the LAN status on my PC, it consistently displayed “Unidentified Network,” leaving me at a loss. After scouring countless online forums and guides, I found no viable solutions. It was as if my PC had become a black hole for internet connectivity, despite my best efforts to resolve the problem.

Fortunately, after two days of relentless troubleshooting, I finally pinpointed the cause. It turned out that my internet setup was a bit convoluted—when we moved into our current home, the configuration was less than optimal. My ethernet connection was routed from the primary router through a secondary router before reaching my PC. Unfortunately, that secondary router had become non-functional.

By resetting the secondary router, I managed to restore the connection, and my internet woes came to an end—at least partially. While I now have a direct LAN connection and can access the internet without issue, my Wi-Fi remains down. Nonetheless, having reliable internet access on my PC feels like a huge victory.

Sometimes, the solution lies in something as simple as ensuring all devices involved in your connection are functional and correctly configured.
