A Heartfelt Tribute to a Stranger’s Kindness: Building Memories and a PC
In a world where random acts of kindness can feel rare, I’d like to share a truly heartwarming experience that not only transformed my youngest son’s gaming ambitions but also enriched our family memories. Approximately three weeks ago, a wonderful stranger on Reddit – u/zakabog – surprised us with a remarkable gift: a complete gaming PC build for my son.
For context, I had previously posted about my son’s first computer—an entry-level, second-hand machine that we hoped to upgrade in the future. Little did I know that someone out there would read my post and decide to take an extraordinary step to help us.

Initially, I was skeptical; it felt too good to be true. However, as fate would have it, the gesture turned out to be far larger than I had anticipated—a brand new full build from Scan Computers UK.

Digging into the world of PC building after 25 years, I brushed up on my skills, even creating a rudimentary wiring diagram using MS Paint (please, judge lightly!).
Upon returning home, my son and I eagerly began the assembly process. After installing the cooler brackets, CPU, and RAM together, my son had to head off to school. This gave me a chance to power through some initial bench testing—installing the operating system, drivers, and a few crucial programs to ensure that everything would be ready for him to enjoy right away.
The bench test went off without a hitch, and I carefully packaged the individual components back into their boxes, preserving the excitement for when my son returned home later that day.
