A Heartfelt Update: A Gratifying Journey of Kindness and Family
In a world where random acts of kindness often go unnoticed, I feel compelled to share a profound experience that has forever touched my heart. With exuberance, I extend my deepest gratitude to a complete stranger known as u/zakabog, whose remarkable generosity has created lasting memories for my family.
The Kind Gesture That Started It All
Previously, I posted about how an incredible individual reached out to help my youngest son enhance his budding interest in gaming by offering to upgrade his first PC—a secondhand build we hoped to improve over time. Initially, I approached this astounding offer with skepticism; how could a stranger truly want to give something so significant? After some back and forth, u/zakabog not only reassured me of his intentions but also facilitated the delivery of an entire new build, courtesy of Scan Computers UK, after some hiccups with Amazon’s fraud alerts.
The Build Journey Begins
As fate would have it, I was away for work at the time, spending 21 days on the job and 21 days at home. u/zakabog’s generous offer arrived on day three of my working stint, and the parts showed up just a few days later. During those early days, anticipation filled me with newfound eagerness and excitement. I took it as an opportunity to research and prepare for the build—something I hadn’t done since my teenage years, over two decades ago. Using my limited skills in MS Paint, I crafted a basic wiring diagram (don’t judge me too harshly—see attached picture!).
Putting It All Together
Upon returning home, my son and I dove right into the assembly process. We began by installing the cooler brackets, CPU, and RAM. Unfortunately, right as I began bench-testing the components, my son had to leave for school, so I took the chance to set everything up: the OS, drivers, and a few essential programs were installed to ensure a smooth startup later.
My first nerve-wracking moment came during the bench test, but thankfully, it all went well. I carefully dismantled everything afterward and placed it back in its boxes, waiting for my son’s return.
Once he was back from school, the real adventure began. Together, and with help from his older brother, we installed the case and motherboard. A minor setback arose when I realized that the AI cooler I had purchased was too large for the case
