Meet Nick Percoco: A Cybersecurity Expert Ready to Share Insights on Cryptocurrency Security
In the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrency, understanding the landscape of security incidents is crucial. I’m Nick Percoco, currently serving as the Chief Security Officer at Kraken, one of the leading global digital asset exchanges. With a rich career spanning over 25 years in technology and cybersecurity, I have dedicated my life to safeguarding digital assets and enhancing security practices across various sectors.
Before joining Kraken, I honed my expertise as the CSO at Uptake, an industrial AI company, and I also held the position of Vice President of Global Services at Rapid7, a comprehensive cybersecurity firm. My extensive experience has provided me with a unique perspective on various security challenges, from security breaches and malware threats to evolving trends in information security. I’ve had the privilege of sharing my knowledge at renowned events such as Black Hat, DEF CON, and OWASP, as well as engaging with audiences from esteemed organizations like the Department of Homeland Security, US-CERT, Interpol, and the United States Secret Service.
My journey into technology began at an early age. I mastered coding at just seven years old on a Timex Sinclair 1000 and became an active participant in the Chicagoland bulletin board systems during the late 80s and early 90s on devices such as the Commodore 64 and an Intel 386 PC that ran Linux. This foundation paved the way for my long-standing involvement in the Chicago hacker community, where I organize THOTCON, a hacker conference that will celebrate its 12th edition in 2023.
Over the past four years at Kraken, I’ve focused on developing comprehensive security programs to protect our platform from potential cyber threats, ensuring that our users’ assets remain safe amidst growing risks in the cryptocurrency space.
I’m excited to share my insights on cryptocurrency hacks, security protocols, and cybersecurity investigations. Whether you have questions about my experiences or are looking for advice on how to enhance your own security measures, I’m here to provide answers.
Feel free to leave your questions in the comments below, and let’s engage in a fruitful discussion about the current state of cybersecurity and what lies ahead.
Edit: Thank you for the wonderful questions! I look forward to continuing our conversation throughout the day and addressing more inquiries as they come in.
