As the Chief Security Officer at Kraken, a prominent global digital asset exchange, he oversees crucial aspects of Security, IT, and Engineering. His previous roles include serving as CSO at Uptake, an industrial AI firm, and as Vice President of Global Services at Rapid7, a full-service cybersecurity organization.
Through his career, Nick has offered valuable insights on a range of cybersecurity topics—from security breaches and malware analysis to mobile security trends—at major events like Black Hat and DEF CON. Moreover, he’s shared his expertise with respected organizations such as the Department of Homeland Security, US-CERT, Interpol, and the United States Secret Service.

Nick’s journey in the tech world began at an early age. He learned to code at just seven years old on a Timex Sinclair 1000 and was actively engaged in the Chicagoland bulletin board systems (BBS) throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, using a Commodore 64 and later an Intel 386 PC running Linux.
His deep connection with the Chicago hacker community has led him to establish THOTCON, which celebrated its 12th conference in 2023. Over the years, he has also delved into some of the most significant data breaches, working tirelessly to bolster security measures at Kraken to safeguard the cryptocurrency exchange from various attacks.
