Meet Nick Percoco: Cybersecurity Expert and CSO at Kraken

Hello, and welcome to my blog! I’m Nick Percoco, a dedicated cybersecurity professional with over 25 years of expertise in the realms of security and technology. As the Chief Security Officer at Kraken, a leading global digital asset exchange, I am privileged to guide our initiatives in Security, IT, and Engineering.

My career journey has taken me through various prominent roles, including serving as the Chief Security Officer at Uptake, an innovative industrial AI firm, and as the Vice President of Global Services at Rapid7, a comprehensive cybersecurity company. I have had the opportunity to share my insights into security breaches, malware, mobile security, and InfoSec trends at renowned conferences like Black Hat, DEF CON, and OWASP. Additionally, I have provided guidance to key audiences, including the Department of Homeland Security, US-CERT, Interpol, and the Secret Service.

My passion for technology dates back to my childhood; I was coding by the age of seven on a Timex Sinclair 1000 in the early 1980s. I fondly recall my adventures in the Chicagoland BBS scene during the late 80s and early 90s, using a Commodore 64 and, later, an Intel 386 PC with Linux.

As a long-standing member of the Chicago hacker community, I am also the founding organizer of THOTCON, a hacker conference that is set to celebrate its 12th edition in 2023. Throughout my career, I’ve tackled some of the largest data breaches in history and, over the past four years at Kraken, I’ve been focused on building robust security programs to protect our cryptocurrency exchange from various threats.
