A Legacy in Cybersecurity

Before joining Kraken, Nick held pivotal positions, including Chief Security Officer at Uptake, an industrial AI company, and Vice President of Global Services at Rapid7, a leading cybersecurity firm. His expertise has made him a sought-after speaker at major security conferences such as Black Hat, DEF CON, and OWASP, where he has shared insights with diverse audiences ranging from government agencies like the Department of Homeland Security to international organizations such as Interpol.

Nick’s journey in technology began at a remarkably young age when he learned to code at just seven years old on a Timex Sinclair 1000. From there, he immersed himself in the early tech landscape, actively participating in the Chicagoland Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) community using a Commodore 64 and later an Intel 386 PC while running Linux.

Having navigated the Chicago hacker scene for decades, Nick is also the founder of THOTCON, an influential hacker conference that is set to celebrate its 12th event in 2023. His vast experience includes investigating some of the most significant data breaches in history, and in recent years, he has been focusing on enhancing security measures at Kraken to safeguard the cryptocurrency exchange against potential threats.
