What to Do with a Garage Full of Hard Drives? Seeking Guidance!
Have you ever found yourself in an unexpected situation that leaves you puzzled and searching for answers? That’s precisely where I find myself today. Years ago, my father-in-law came into possession of a remarkable collection of refurbished SCSI hard drives—over 500 to be exact. The circumstances of how he acquired them remain unclear, but his intentions were to sell these drives before his untimely passing.
Now, I am faced with the task of deciding what to do with this extensive assortment. I’ve spent some time researching their model numbers and discovered a wide price range from $10 to $120 per drive. While these drives are factory refurbished, sealed, and neatly packaged, their age raises concerns about their demand in today’s tech market.
On one hand, the idea of scrapping them crosses my mind, as it seems easier to cut my losses—after all, these were my late father-in-law’s assets. Yet, I can’t shake the feeling that there may be someone out there who could benefit from these drives. It feels wrong to let them go to waste when they might still hold value for someone in need.
Among the drives I have are the following models:
– Seagate Barracuda ST15150N
– Seagate Barracuda ST118273LC
– Seagate Cheetah ST118202LC
– IBM DRHS IEC-950 ECE32148
I find myself at a crossroads and would greatly appreciate any advice or insights on how to best navigate this situation. Should I attempt to sell these hard drives, and if so, what would be the most effective route to take? Or is it more prudent to find a Computers.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">recycling or scrapping option?
Your thoughts and suggestions would mean a lot as I seek the best way forward with this collection. Thank you!
