To top it off, there were instances where I could not disengage from the assistant’s grasp unless I resorted to hitting the physical buttons on my device.

In November, I decided I’d had enough of these shenanigans and proceeded to turn off Google Assistant through the settings menu. To my surprise, the assistant continued to activate, now displaying a persistent prompt declaring, “Your Google Assistant is here to help. Turn On.” It felt as though it was attempting to coax me back into enabling it, almost like an overzealous companion.

My tablet, an aging relic from around 2012, might be a factor here. Perhaps it’s a glitch typical of older technology, but part of me wonders if there’s something more sinister at play. Could it be that my device has developed some form of sapience, or is there a hacker manipulating my every command?

The most alarming aspect of this entire ordeal is that when I attempt to search for ways to permanently disable the assistant or to check for signs of hacking, the same prompt appears, preventing me from accessing crucial information. This interference has left me feeling a mix of confusion and anxiety as I grapple with what’s going on.
