As an IT professional, I’m stumped and can’t figure this out…

Troubleshooting GPU Issues on a Used Laptop: A Journey of Frustration and Learning

As an IT professional, encountering unexpected tech troubles can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you’ve invested in what you believed would be a reliable piece of hardware. Recently, I purchased a used laptop equipped with an NVIDIA 3060 GPU from my company, which was functioning flawlessly for the first two weeks. However, to my dismay, the GPU ceased to work a couple of days ago, leaving me perplexed and searching for solutions.

In an attempt to resolve the issue, I embarked on a comprehensive troubleshooting journey. My first step was to reinstall the drivers, hoping that a fresh installation would restore functionality. I also explored the possibility of any BIOS updates that could potentially rectify the situation. After ensuring all updates were current, I even considered reverting back to previous BIOS and Windows builds.

Not satisfied with these attempts, I further uninstalled the drivers and tried loading older versions, suspecting that the latest update may have introduced the problem. To add to my efforts, I even went so far as to reinstall Windows entirely, exploring older versions as a last resort.

Throughout this process, I confirmed that the GPU was still recognized within the device manager, which was a small relief. However, the real challenge lies in the fact that no other software programs acknowledge its presence, rendering the GPU virtually unusable at this point.

As I reflect on these trials, I can’t help but wonder if anyone out there has faced similar challenges with their laptops or GPUs. If you have insights or recommendations that could guide me in troubleshooting this issue further, I would greatly appreciate your input. Whether you’ve navigated peculiar tech problems yourself or possess expert knowledge in hardware, your thoughts could be invaluable in solving this mystery.
