Mysterious Black Window: Encountering a Non-Command Prompt Glitch
Have you ever stumbled upon a strange black window on your screen that isn’t actually a command prompt? I recently encountered this perplexing issue, leading me down a rabbit hole of uncertainty. Initially, I dismissed it as a dead pixel. However, as I accidentally dragged the window with my mouse, it became clear that this anomaly was more than just a display flaw.
Upon checking the task manager, I found no suspicious applications that might explain the presence of this mysterious window. To give you a clearer picture, this window resembles a typical command-line interface when your cursor is poised over a text entry point; however, it has a somewhat transparent appearance and is not the command prompt itself. If you’re curious, I shared some images here: Weird window – Imgur.
As I pondered the nature of this window, I couldn’t help but wonder: Could it possibly be malware? Should I consider performing a clean installation of Windows?
Update on the Situation
After engaging with the knowledgeable community on Reddit, a helpful user, u/Slapbox, recommended that I install Process Explorer to diagnose the issue further. This tool allowed me to trace the enigmatic black window back to the voice recognition feature of “One Dragon Center.” Interestingly, I typically use the Dragon Center application just to customize the RGB lighting for social media aesthetics, and it has never caused any issues before.
After uninstalling the application, a quick restart confirmed that the pesky window had vanished for good. I appreciate all the thoughtful responses and guidance from everyone who offered their insights. If you ever find yourself in a similar predicament, don’t hesitate to reach out for help—it really does make a difference!
