Troubleshooting CPU Compatibility Issues: i5 9400f and AsRock B365M Pro4

As an enthusiastic tech follower, I often encounter various challenges while assembling PC builds. Recently, I faced a particularly perplexing issue involving not one, but two separate Intel i5 9400f processors that refused to work with an AsRock B365M Pro4 motherboard, which is supposedly compatible according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

Background on the Build

A friend of mine recently embarked on a new PC build, only to discover that the system wouldn’t boot. After some initial troubleshooting, it became clear that the i5 9400f processor was not compatible with the ASRock motherboard right out of the box. The solution pointed towards updating the BIOS to resolve this issue, as compatibility often changes with firmware updates.

Determined to get things back on track, I temporarily removed my own Intel i7 8700k CPU and used it to perform the BIOS update. The update process completed successfully, and I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version available—P4.40.

The Dilemma Continues

With the BIOS now updated, I anticipated that the build would function as intended. However, to my dismay, both i5 9400f processors continued to fail to boot. This is particularly concerning given that the compatibility chart on the AsRock website distinctly lists this CPU as supported.
