Reviving an Old Laptop: Setting Up My Child’s First Computer with Ubuntu
In an effort to breathe new life into a twelve-year-old laptop, I recently decided to install Ubuntu on the device. This will serve as my four-year-old daughter’s first experience with technology, providing her with an opportunity to learn typing and writing skills in a fun and interactive way.
One of my primary goals is to simplify her experience as much as possible. I am exploring ways to configure the laptop so that it opens directly into a text editor upon boot-up. This will allow her to focus on her tasks without needing to navigate the desktop or use a mouse – a skill she hasn’t quite mastered yet.
Additionally, I’m curious if it’s possible to configure the laptop to start with the Caps Lock key activated by default. This would facilitate her writing experience by allowing her to use uppercase letters without having to worry about pressing the shift key.
If you have any suggestions or insights on how to achieve these goals, I would welcome your advice!
