When I connected my USB drive to my PC, I initially encountered some delays while trying to access it. As I multitasked on my computer, Windows Defender swiftly flagged a severe threat associated with the drive. This was alarming, especially considering my previous experience with this same USB.
Not long ago, I had used the USB at my school to transfer files, only to find them mysteriously converted into “.lmk” format. This cryptic file extension hid most of my files from view, giving the impression that my important data had vanished. Thankfully, a quick fix was available; by using the “Attrib” command in the Command Prompt, I was able to recover my files.
However, this situation felt different. Upon retrieving my USB from a classmate who had borrowed it for printing, I couldn’t shake off the uneasy feeling. After all, it’s not uncommon for unsecured PCs to harbor harmful software that could infect connected USB drives.
