Reviving an Old Laptop: A Journey into Ubuntu for My Child

In an exciting turn of events, I’ve successfully breathed new life into my 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu. This old faithful machine is now set to become the first personal computer for my four-year-old daughter. It presents a wonderful opportunity for her to begin learning essential skills like typing and writing in a fun and engaging environment.

As I prepare this setup for her, I’m considering the best approach to make the laptop user-friendly, especially since she is not quite ready to navigate with a mouse. I’m looking for solutions that would allow the device to launch directly into a text editor upon startup. That way, she can dive straight into her writing without the need to figure out the complexities of mouse navigation right away.

Additionally, I’ve been pondering whether it’s possible to configure the laptop so it starts with the Caps Lock key activated. This modification could enhance her experience as she explores different writing styles and gets accustomed to using the keyboard.
