Steam mandates launching the game via Origin, while Origin needs the game installed through Steam; however, Origin fails to detect the installation, and Steam doesn’t acknowledge the issue.

Navigating the Maze: The Steam-Origin Tug-of-War

Hello, fellow gamers and tech enthusiasts!

Today, I want to share an ongoing issue that many of you might find all too familiar, especially when dealing with the intricate relationship between gaming platforms. This isn’t simply a critique of the systems involved, but rather a recount of my experience as I navigated what felt like an endless loop of frustration.

The Conundrum: A Game Caught Between Platforms

Recently, I purchased three recent titles through Steam, confident they would run smoothly on my setup. However, a hidden complication arose: EA’s games require the Origin client to operate, a cross-play dilemma that nobody warned me about. Instead of launching directly from Steam, I was greeted by the dreaded Origin interface, which insisted that the games weren’t installed — despite them being clearly present on my hard drive.

Attempting to resolve this led me down a rabbit hole of absurdity. Upon trying to run the game via Origin, I encountered two scenarios:

  1. For titles not yet downloaded, I was prompted to install them through Steam, creating a frustrating loop.
  2. For those that were already installed, the client simply declared that the download had failed, leaving me stumped.

Seeking Support: A Mixed Bag of Help

In my quest for a solution, I reached out to EA support, where the customer service representatives were friendly and eager to assist. However, despite their best intentions, the standard troubleshooting steps offered little respite. This comprised the usual uninstall/reinstall dance, which ultimately wasted my time — especially with Australia’s notoriously sluggish internet service dragging the process out over days.

One representative did manage to guide me a step further, offering advice on addressing potential Steam-related issues. After clearing the download cache and repairing the library folders, I felt a glimmer of hope. The Origin client finally seemed to recognize that the games were indeed installed. However, the celebration was short-lived. Upon attempting to launch the games, I was met with an entirely new hurdle: the Origin client reset itself, sending me back to the home page without actually playing anything. A real head-scratcher!

Reaching Out Again: The Cycle Continues

I also sought help from Steam support, only to be told that my best course of action would involve reaching out to EA again or seeking a refund. Unfortunately, my previous encounter with the refund request had been thwarted by the slow download speeds, which placed me outside the refund
