Troubleshooting: Two i5 9400F Processors Fail to Work with AsRock Motherboard Despite Compatibility Listing and Updated BIOS

Troubleshooting BIOS Compatibility Issues: i5 9400F and AsRock B365M Pro4

Recently, I encountered a frustrating situation while assisting a friend with a new PC build. After putting everything together, we realized the system wouldn’t boot. Initially, it appeared that the problem stemmed from the Intel i5 9400F processor’s compatibility with the AsRock B365M Pro4 motherboard. Although the CPU was listed on AsRock’s compatibility chart, the system failed to power up.

To resolve the issue, I undertook a temporary solution: I swapped out my Intel i7 8700K into the build to update the motherboard’s BIOS. This update went smoothly, and I successfully installed the latest version—P4.40. However, after reinserting two different i5 9400F processors, the motherboard still refused to boot.

Given the compatibility listing on AsRock’s website, this ongoing failure raised several questions. Is there something I might be overlooking, or are there any additional compatibility nuances that aren’t immediately apparent?

For reference, the relevant specifications can be found on the AsRock website here.

I welcome any insights or suggestions from the community. If you’ve faced similar issues or have expertise in resolving CPU compatibility problems with motherboards, your advice would be invaluable. Thank you in advance for your assistance!
