Reviving a Vintage Laptop for My Child’s Learning Journey with Ubuntu

In a world where technology is constantly advancing, giving old devices a new lease on life can be incredibly rewarding. Recently, I had the opportunity to breathe new life into my 12-year-old laptop by installing the Ubuntu operating system. This device will soon serve as my four-year-old daughter’s first introduction to the world of computers, providing her with a platform to learn essential skills such as typing and writing.

One of my primary objectives is to create an environment where she can explore without the added complexity of navigating a mouse. To facilitate this, I am exploring ways to set up the laptop to launch directly into a text editor upon startup. This would enable her to focus solely on her writing, fostering creativity and learning without unnecessary distractions.

Additionally, I have a couple of technical questions as I prepare for this transition. Specifically, I’m curious if it’s possible to configure the laptop to start with the Caps Lock on by default. This feature could make typing easier for her as she learns to form words and sentences.
