Reviving an Old Laptop for My Child’s First Learning Experience

I recently breathed new life into my 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu—a move that has turned this old machine into a wonderful educational tool for my 4-year-old daughter. I’m excited to introduce her to the world of typing and writing through this revival project!

One of my main goals is to create a user-friendly environment that allows her to start exploring without the need to master the mouse just yet. To achieve this, I’m contemplating the best way to set the laptop to boot directly into a text editor. This simple setup would enable her to focus on writing and typing right from the start, fostering her creativity without the initial distraction of navigating menus.

Additionally, I have a couple of technical queries: Is it possible to configure the laptop to start with Caps Lock activated? Having the text in uppercase could be useful for certain early writing exercises, and I’d love to know how to implement that.
