Cleaning out the shed, I discovered my father’s portable computer.

Unearthing a Piece of History: The Sharp PC-7000 Portable Computer

Recently, while organizing my shed, I stumbled upon a remarkable find—a vintage portable computer that belonged to my father. It’s the Sharp PC-7000, a device that once represented cutting-edge technology in its era.

I managed to snap a picture of it while it rested on my lap. While the poor thing has spent a lot of time outside, tucked away in the shed (thanks to the local spiders), I was initially surprised to see it power up after plugging it in. It seems this classic has held up quite well over the years, and believe it or not, we still have a few floppy disks that are compatible with it!

Reflecting on its history, I can easily appreciate how the Sharp PC-7000 was considered state-of-the-art during its time. My father often took it with him to his classes, making it one of the earliest examples of portable computing in an educational setting.

This unexpected find has sparked a wave of nostalgia, reminding me of the advancements in technology since then. It’s incredible to think about how far we’ve come, and yet, holding this piece of history is a reminder of the roots of our modern devices.
