In today’s digital age, maintaining a smooth and fast internet connection is essential, especially for those who frequently download large files or engage in bandwidth-intensive activities. Recently, I encountered a significant issue with Kaspersky’s antivirus software that has led me to share my experience and offer a word of caution to my readers.
After switching to Kaspersky from BitDefender, I observed a staggering reduction in my internet speed—by nearly 60%. As soon as I closed the Kaspersky application, my internet performance returned to normal levels. This drastic slowdown is a deal breaker for someone like me who relies heavily on high-speed connectivity for downloading content, especially when security measures are paramount during these activities.
Prior to my experience with Kaspersky, I had used BitDefender for about five years without any issues regarding internet speed. In fact, I found that other antivirus software options, including McAfee, Norton, and Avira, did not affect my internet connection at all. This led me to believe that Kaspersky was uniquely responsible for the performance degradation I was experiencing.
In an attempt to troubleshoot the issue, I systematically disabled Kaspersky’s protection features one by one, hoping to identify a specific setting responsible for the slowdown. Lastly, for anyone suggesting that a 400 Mbps connection should be sufficient, I would argue that I pay a premium for this service, and a 60% reduction is simply unacceptable when taking security measures into account.
