Feeling Like a Boomer Trapped in a Gen Z’s Body: Suspecting My WiFi Has Been Hacked

Is My Wi-Fi Compromised? A Personal Experience

In a world where technology infiltrates nearly every aspect of our lives, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, especially when something goes awry. Recently, I found myself in a situation that made me believe my Wi-Fi might have been hacked. It’s a strange feeling, and I wanted to share my experience in hopes of shedding light on what to watch out for.

The Incident

Last night, I was enjoying a relaxing evening, engrossed in a movie while casually browsing Facebook. Suddenly, without warning, I was logged out of my account with a message indicating that my session had expired. Distracted by this unexpected disruption, I failed to notice that the film had switched to a language I didn’t understand—a detail that should have caught my attention much earlier since I was about half an hour into the storyline.

Feeling a little perplexed, I immediately set out to regain access to my Facebook account. When I checked the email linked to my account, a wave of concern washed over me. The phone number associated with my email had been changed, and I definitely hadn’t authorized any such action. Alarm bells started ringing in my head.

Strange Emails and Unwanted Messages

This morning, while combing through my emails to retrieve the recovery code from Facebook—an email that, for reasons unexplained, never came—I stumbled across something even more unsettling. In my junk folder, I noticed an email addressed not to me, but to someone named “mac****@hotmail.co.uk.” This was clearly not my email, and the message, which was from an “Adult Dating” service, felt far too casual and out of place.

Given the recent influx of horror films I had been watching—where characters often find themselves with compromised Internet connections leading to chaotic situations—I couldn’t help but entertain the idea that something similar was taking place with my connection.

Seeking Perspective

Now, I’m left questioning my sanity. Is it possible that I’m being overly paranoid about hacking incidents due to the media I consume? Am I simply an easy target for modern digital fears? I’m reaching out to see if anyone else has faced a similar situation or if I’m merely overreacting.

If anyone has any advice on how to secure my accounts or insights into what I should do next, I’m all ears! I would also love to share a video snippet of my suddenly foreign version of The Princess Diaries and the strangely addressed email
