While tidying up the shed, I stumbled upon my dad’s handheld computer.

Unearthing Nostalgia: A Glimpse into the Past with a Sharp PC-7000

Recently, while engaging in some long-overdue organization of my shed, I stumbled upon a piece of technology that instantly transported me back in time: my father’s Sharp PC-7000 portable computer.

This fascinating device, which I had forgotten about, was nestled in a corner, away from prying eyes and the occasional unwelcome visitor (thank you, spiders). Despite its time spent in the shed, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it powered up without any issues when I finally plugged it in. Even more exciting was the discovery of a stash of floppy disks still intact alongside the computer!

The Sharp PC-7000 was a remarkable machine for its era and a testament to the ingenuity of technology in the early days of personal computing. It was my dad’s trusty companion during his classes, serving as a vital tool for his academic pursuits. Holding it in my hands again, I couldn’t help but appreciate the evolution of computing technology and the nostalgia that comes with it.

As I reflect on that era, it’s clear how far we’ve come in terms of technology, but a piece like the Sharp PC-7000 reminds us of the roots of personal computing and the incredible journeys these devices have had.
