Reviving a Vintage Laptop: A New Start for My Daughter
I recently embarked on an exciting project: I successfully revived my 12-year-old laptop and installed Ubuntu on it. This laptop is now set to become my four-year-old daughter’s very first computer. My goal is to create a space where she can learn the fundamentals of typing and writing, laying a foundation for her future studies.
One of my main priorities is to streamline the user experience for her. I am exploring the best way to configure the laptop so that it opens directly into a text editor upon startup. This way, she won’t need to navigate with a mouse just yet, making her initial experience more accessible and fun.
Additionally, I’m curious about the possibility of having the device start with Caps Lock activated. This small adjustment could greatly simplify her typing experience as she begins to familiarize herself with the keyboard.
I welcome any suggestions or insights on how to achieve these configurations! Setting up a welcoming and user-friendly environment for my daughter’s first steps in computing is a challenge I’m looking forward to tackling.
