Frustrating Windows Feature: The Mystery Behind ‘Open Application Location’
As a frequent user of Windows 10, I’ve encountered a peculiar annoyance that raises more questions than it answers: the ‘Open Application Location’ feature accessed via right-clicking on an application in the search menu. You might expect this feature to directly take you to the installation folder of the software in question, but instead, it consistently leads to a directory filled with shortcuts. This usability quirk has left me dumbfounded and, quite frankly, frustrated.
To date, I can confidently say I’ve never found myself in need of a shortcut’s location. Instead, my objective is simple: I want to locate the actual executable file of the application without having to navigate through File Explorer. Typically, I would be looking to access something akin to the path: C:\Program Files\XYZ Developer\XYZ Application.
This inconvenience poses a significant question: Is there a way to modify this particular Windows feature to direct users to the real installation path of their favorite applications?
If you’re as perplexed as I am regarding this functionality—or lack thereof—let’s discuss potential workarounds or alternative methods for easily locating application files in Windows 10. Your insights and experiences could pave the way for a more streamlined and user-friendly approach to managing applications on our systems.
Looking forward to your tips!
