Troubleshooting My Computer’s Peculiar Behavior: Seeking Advice

Recently, I’ve noticed some unusual behavior with my computer, which has escalated into a series of peculiar issues. To give you a little background, around three years ago, I had my laptop repaired due to a faulty component. Unfortunately, I received a counterfeit part from an unknown supplier, leading to ongoing complications. Initially, I encountered a recurring “CPU fan error,” even though the fan was functioning properly and the CPU temperatures were normal. Instead of addressing this with the repair service, I opted to launch the system via BIOS, which was far from optimal.

Eventually, I noticed that Windows began experiencing significant problems, which I traced back to a malfunctioning SSD—one that I have since replaced. This seemed to resolve many issues until more strange symptoms began to emerge.

Now, I face a frustrating situation where my computer refuses to turn on reliably. Pressing the power button yields inconsistent results; sometimes it powers up, and sometimes it doesn’t. When it fails to start, the power button and the power supply light up, and everything inside appears to be operational. However, there’s no response from my keyboard or mouse, and the screen remains blank.

To combat this, I’ve resorted to a trial-and-error approach. I often have to power down the machine entirely, turn it back on, switch the power off, and then back on, or even delve inside the case to verify all connections. Although everything appears secure and properly connected, it’s a painstaking process.

Additionally, I’m facing some other quirks: occasionally, when I change the HDMI port on the back from my monitor to my TV, the whole system will unexpectedly restart. Even more perplexingly, a slight bump—like my knee brushing against the machine as I get up—can cause it to shut down.
