Reviving a Classic: Transforming an Old Laptop for My Child’s First Learning Experience

I recently embarked on a project to breathe new life into a 12-year-old laptop, and I decided to install Ubuntu on it. This refurbished device is destined to become my 4-year-old daughter’s very first laptop, offering her an opportunity to learn how to type and write in a fun and engaging way.

One of the main challenges I’m facing is ensuring that she can easily access a text editor without needing to navigate with a mouse just yet. My goal is to create a seamless experience where she can focus solely on her writing. I’m exploring options to configure the laptop to launch directly into a text editor upon startup. This would allow her to dive straight into her creative processes without any confusion.

Additionally, I’ve been considering whether it’s possible to set the device to start with Caps Lock enabled. This could simplify her typing experience as she becomes familiar with letters and words.
