My wife received a “Your Computer Is Locked” virus message prompting her to call 833-324-0303; when she contacted the number, the caller claimed to be a Microsoft representative.

Navigating the “Your Computer Has Been Locked Up” Virus: A Personal Experience

Recently, my wife encountered a frustrating situation with her computer – a virus warning popped up, claiming that her device had been locked and advising her to call the number 833-324-0303. The individual on the other end of the line identified himself as a Microsoft representative.

In moments like these, it’s important to remain calm and think critically. I advised my wife to restart her computer, a simple yet effective solution that has worked for me in the past. When she inquired about the legitimacy of the caller’s claims and asked for the company’s website, he responded cryptically that “having a site doesn’t help” and insisted this was standard procedure.

After rebooting her Apple computer, the alarming notification vanished. This is not the first time I’ve faced such warnings on my Windows machines, which typically occur once every year or two. In my experience, shutting down or restarting the computer has consistently resolved the issue.

Have any of you dealt with similar situations? What strategies do you recommend for handling these types of scams?
