Recently, I took on the challenge of reviving a 12-year-old laptop, intending it to serve as a starter device for my four-year-old daughter. After successfully installing Ubuntu, I am excited about the potential this machine holds for her early learning experiences.
My vision is to create a simple, user-friendly environment where she can explore the world of typing and writing without the overwhelming complexity of navigating a mouse. To achieve this, I am exploring the best ways to configure the laptop to open directly into a text editor upon startup. This would allow her to dive straight into her creative endeavors without getting bogged down by unnecessary tools.
Additionally, I have another query: Is there a way to set the laptop to start with the Caps Lock key enabled? This would be beneficial for her as she familiarizes herself with typing, helping her to understand the importance of uppercase letters in writing.
I am excited about this project, not just for the practicality of reviving an old device but for the learning opportunities it will provide my daughter.
