Reviving My Old Laptop: A New Journey for My Child

In a heartwarming endeavor to equip my four-year-old with her first laptop experience, I recently revived a twelve-year-old laptop and installed Ubuntu on it. This transition not only breathes new life into the device but also provides a wonderful opportunity for her to learn essential skills like typing and writing.

One of my primary goals is to make this experience as seamless as possible for her by having the laptop boot directly into a text editor. This way, she can instantly start expressing her thoughts and creativity without needing to master the intricacies of a mouse just yet.

I’m exploring different configurations and methods to set up the system, so the text editor becomes the first thing she sees upon startup. If anyone has tips or suggestions for user-friendly text editors that work well with Ubuntu, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Additionally, I’m curious about the functionality of the caps lock key. Is it possible to configure the device to start with caps lock enabled? This would allow my daughter to get accustomed to typing in uppercase letters, which could be beneficial for her learning process.
