Title: Strange Keyboard Incident During Gaming: Seeking Solutions
Recently, I experienced a bizarre incident while gaming that has left me both puzzled and worried. I want to share my experience and seek guidance from others who may have encountered something similar.
While engaged in a session of Battlefield 4, I attempted to record gameplay using my NVIDIA software. In the process, I hit several key combinations on my keyboard until I found the one that captured the footage. Shortly after, my computer began acting strangely—the keyboard appeared to click random keys on its own, and to my shock, the in-game chat opened and typed “amr admin.” In a panic, I exited the game.
Inexplicably, when I opened Chrome, the search bar started populating with sentences on its own. I was taken aback as the text appeared to be coherent phrases, such as “use thea hze li again?” and “deah but now i might not be able ti do much :^_.” Feeling increasingly anxious, I quickly ran a scan using Malwarebytes; however, it flagged no issues.
As I tried to exit Battlefield, my game reconnected automatically, and my cursor flickered uncontrollably until I performed a reboot. I checked for any keyboard macros or unusual settings but found nothing wrong. I searched online for similar experiences but came up empty-handed. This was unsettling, and I can’t help but wonder if it’s a sign of malware or perhaps a strange hardware malfunction. Notably, I haven’t installed any new programs in the last two weeks.
I’m now at a crossroads regarding my next steps. A complete hard wipe of my PC is on my mind, but I’m hesitant due to the vital files I have stored. Has anyone out there experienced something like this? Is it possible my PC has been compromised? What steps do you recommend taking?
Edit: After posting, I tried to reproduce the typing issue but had no success, even while executing the same keystrokes.
Edit 2: I appreciate everyone who has offered assistance. After checking all macros and ensuring no unauthorized connections, I decided it would be safer to wipe the PC entirely. I plan to conduct further tests once the system is back up.
Edit 3: Many responses suggested that the unusual typing might be a result of a macro. However, I couldn’t trace any of the text back to myself, and my macro settings appeared blank. Though the macro theory seems plausible, I
