Reviving a Vintage Laptop: A New Beginning for My Daughter’s Tech Journey
In an exciting turn of events, I’ve breathed new life into a 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu, transforming it into a user-friendly device perfectly suited for my four-year-old daughter. This laptop will serve as her first exploration into the world of typing and writing, creating a wonderful opportunity for her to develop essential skills at an early age.
As I set up the laptop, my primary goal is to make it as intuitive as possible for her. One way to achieve this is by configuring the system to launch directly into a text editor upon startup. This would allow her to focus on her writing without the distraction or complexity of using a mouse just yet. I’m exploring different settings and applications within Ubuntu to find the most seamless option for her.
Another technical consideration I have is whether it’s possible to enable the Caps Lock key from the moment the laptop boots up. This could add an extra layer of convenience, especially as she learns to write with capital letters more frequently.
