Reviving an Old Laptop: A Perfect First Computer for My Child

In a world where technology advances rapidly, it’s easy to overlook the potential of older devices. Recently, I took on the challenge of revitalizing a 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu, an open-source operating system. This laptop is set to become the first personal computer for my four-year-old daughter, providing her with a unique opportunity to learn typing and writing in a digital format.

One of my primary goals is to make her initial experience with technology as seamless as possible. I am exploring ways to configure the laptop to launch directly into a text editor upon startup. This would allow her to begin working without needing to navigate the complexities of a mouse or desktop environment just yet. It’s incredible how simple modifications can enhance accessibility and ease of use, especially for young learners.

Additionally, I’m contemplating whether it’s feasible to set the device to start with the Caps Lock function enabled. This would make it easier for her to practice capital letters as she begins her writing journey.
