Reviving a Vintage Laptop: Setting Up for My Four-Year-Old
I recently embarked on an exciting project—breathing new life into my 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu! This machine is now ready to serve as my four-year-old’s very first laptop. My goal is to provide her with a platform where she can explore typing and writing at her own pace.
As I prepare for this new adventure, I’m keen on making the user experience as seamless as possible for her. One of my main priorities is to configure the laptop to launch directly into a text editor upon startup. This way, she won’t have to navigate through menus or use a mouse just yet, allowing her to focus on her writing skills without distractions.
Additionally, I have a technical question: is it possible to have the Caps Lock feature enabled by default when the laptop powers up? This would greatly assist in her early typing experiences.
I look forward to sharing the journey of introducing my daughter to the world of technology with this revived laptop, and I welcome any tips or advice from fellow readers on optimizing this setup!
