Reviving a Vintage Laptop for My Child: A Journey with Ubuntu
In a bid to repurpose an older device, I recently revived a 12-year-old laptop and decided to install Ubuntu on it. This will serve as my four-year-old’s very first laptop, providing her with an opportunity to learn fundamental skills such as typing and writing in a fun and engaging way.
As I prepare this laptop for her use, I’m exploring the best approach to make it user-friendly. My primary goal is to configure the device so that it opens directly into a text editor upon startup. This way, she can jump right into writing and practicing without needing to navigate through menus or use a mouse just yet.
Additionally, I have a technical question: Is it possible to have the Caps Lock function activated when the device powers on? This would ensure that when she starts typing, the letters appear in uppercase, should she prefer to write that way.
