During my shed cleanup, I discovered my dad’s portable computing device.

Unearthing a Piece of Technology History: The Sharp PC-7000

During a recent cleaning session in the shed, I stumbled upon a remarkable find—a portable computer belonging to my father, the Sharp PC-7000. As I held this vintage device on my lap, a wave of nostalgia swept over me. I only managed to snap one photograph of it before returning it to its spot in the shed, a place where it’s safe from the pesky spiders that like to make it their home.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Sharp PC-7000 powered on without issue once I plugged it in. It’s incredible to think that we still have floppy disks compatible with this relic! This computer was undoubtedly a significant piece of technology in its time, and I can easily imagine my father taking it to his classes as he pursued his education.

The Sharp PC-7000 serves as a fascinating reminder of how far we’ve come in the world of computing. Its design and functionality, once cutting-edge, now seem almost quaint by today’s standards. Nevertheless, finding this piece of tech history has inspired me to learn more about its role in the evolution of personal computing.
