Seeking Guidance on a Mountain of Unused Hard Drives
It’s not every day that one finds themselves in a situation with over 500 refurbished SCSI hard drives taking up space in their garage. Unfortunately, that’s exactly the dilemma I’m facing after inheriting a significant collection of hardware from my late father-in-law. He obtained these drives with the intention of reselling them, but fate had other plans.
The drives, all factory refurbished, sealed, and neatly packaged, present a puzzling challenge now. Upon researching their model numbers, I discovered a wide price range—from as low as $10 to as high as $120 each. The concern, however, is the age of these drives. Given their vintage status, it’s uncertain if there’s a market for them today.
While part of me contemplates cutting my losses and considering scrapping them, the idea of letting these drives go to waste when they could potentially be useful remains troubling. They could serve someone in need, and I wouldn’t want to dismiss that possibility without exploring all options.
Here are the specific models I have on hand:
- Seagate Barracuda ST15150N
- Seagate Barracuda ST118273LC
- Seagate Cheetah ST118202LC
- IBM DRHS IEC-950 ECE32148
If you have experience in selling refurbished hardware, your insights would be greatly appreciated. Are there viable marketplaces where I could list these drives? Should I consider reaching out to local tech shops, or perhaps vintage electronics enthusiasts? Any guidance on how to handle this unexpected inheritance would be immensely beneficial as I navigate this unique situation. Thank you!
