Troubleshooting a Boot Issue After CCleaner and NVIDIA Driver Update
Recently, I encountered a significant issue with my computer that may resonate with some of you. After installing a new NVMe SSD and transferring several games onto it, I decided to run CCleaner to eliminate any broken registry entries that could cause operational glitches. However, this seemingly simple maintenance step led to unexpected complications.
Following the registry cleanup, I attempted to update my NVIDIA drivers but ran into repeated installation failures. Frustrated, I opted to restart my computer, only to discover that it was unable to boot up at all.
Here are the symptoms I observed during this ordeal:
- When attempting to power on the system, there was no display on the monitor.
- My keyboard appeared unresponsive; notably, the Caps Lock indicator did not light up when pressed.
- Boot options such as F11 for Windows repair were also unavailable.
- While the CPU and case fans were operational and RGB lighting on both the RAM and graphics card functioned, there was no sign of life from the Aorus screen, nor did I have access to the BIOS settings.
- In a further indication of the problem, pressing and holding the power button didn’t initiate a shutdown. Instead, I had to manually disconnect the power source from the back of the unit.
For those who are interested, here are the specifications of my setup:
- Operating System: Windows 10
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 1070 Ti
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 2600
- Motherboard: Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 5 WiFi
This experience has prompted a deeper investigation into the potential connections between system maintenance, driver updates, and hardware interactions. If anyone has faced similar issues or has insights on potential solutions, I would greatly appreciate your input. Your suggestions could help not only me but also others who might find themselves in a similar predicament.
Stay tuned as I document my troubleshooting process and hopefully find a resolution!
