Reviving a Vintage Laptop for My Child: Setting Up Ubuntu for Early Learning
I recently embarked on a rewarding project: I resurrected my 12-year-old laptop and installed Ubuntu on it. This gem is set to become my 4-year-old daughter’s very first computer, a platform where she can explore typing and writing.
As I prepare this device for her, I want to create an environment that makes learning as seamless as possible. One of my primary goals is to enable the laptop to open directly into a text editor upon startup. This way, she can dive right into her writing without needing to navigate with a mouse just yet.
Additionally, I have a couple of technical inquiries. Is it possible to configure the laptop to boot up with Caps Lock activated? I believe this could be helpful as she develops her typing skills.
Stay tuned as I document this journey of introducing my daughter to tech in a fun and engaging way! If anyone has tips or suggestions, I would love to hear them in the comments.
