Accidentally Damaged My Mom’s Phone—Please Help Before She Gets Very Angry

Seeking Solutions: How I Accidentally Changed My Mum’s Phone Settings

We’ve all been there—an innocent curiosity with technology leading to unexpected consequences. I recently found myself in a challenging situation after experimenting with my mum’s phone. What started as a simple exploration of the device turned into a frantic search for solutions.

The Problem

While playing around with my mum’s phone, I made an unintentional change to the network settings. I entered the code ##4636## in the phone app, which switched the network from a range of options (2G, 3G, 4G, and LTE) to LTE only. Unfortunately, this adjustment meant that my mum was no longer able to make calls. Naively, I thought I could easily revert this change, so I switched the settings back to 4G/3G with PRL.

However, whenever my mum’s phone restarts—often due to it freezing and displaying a black screen at maximum brightness—it defaults back to the LTE-only setting, once again disabling her ability to call.

My Dilemma

In a state of panic, I turned to the internet for guidance. I needed to know if there was a way to not only fix this recurring issue but also to set the phone to 4G permanently while maintaining call functionality.

Community Response

I posted my predicament on Reddit, and to my surprise, the community rallied around me with tips and advice. I tried several suggestions, and thankfully, one of them resolved the issue! It was reassuring to see how quickly others were willing to help a fellow tech novice.

Reflection

Although my first silver award on Reddit came from a desperate situation, it turned out to be a valuable learning experience. If you’re ever in a similar spot, remember that you’re not alone. Always double-check any settings you’re unfamiliar with, and don’t hesitate to ask for help from communities who have been there before.

I feel incredibly grateful for the support I received—and relieved that I can now face my mum without fear of her wrath!

If you find yourself in a tech-related bind, reach out and lean on the power of the community. There’s always someone ready to lend a hand!
