Reviving an Old Laptop: A Perfect First Device for My Child
Recently, I embarked on a rewarding project: I revived my 12-year-old laptop and transformed it into a functional learning tool by installing Ubuntu. This trusty machine is now ready to serve as my 4-year-old daughter’s first laptop, providing her with the perfect platform to explore typing and writing.
One of my primary goals is to make the laptop user-friendly. I want my daughter to be able to access a text editor as soon as the device powers up, thereby eliminating the need for her to learn mouse navigation right away. I’m currently exploring ways to set this up seamlessly so that she can dive straight into her writing without any distractions.
Additionally, I have a small technical question: is it possible to configure the laptop to start with the Caps Lock key activated? This would help ensure her early typing experience is both fun and functional.
I am excited about this new chapter in my daughter’s learning journey, and I look forward to sharing how she progresses with her very first laptop!
