Reviving My Old Laptop for My Child: A Journey with Ubuntu
In a heartwarming effort to repurpose my aging 12-year-old laptop, I’ve recently given it a fresh lease on life by installing Ubuntu. This rejuvenated device will serve an exciting purpose: it’s going to be the first laptop for my four-year-old daughter. I’m thrilled that she will now have the opportunity to learn valuable skills like typing and writing at such a young age.
As I prepare this laptop for her, I am seeking the best way to customize the startup experience. My goal is to have the laptop boot directly into a text editor, allowing her to dive straight into writing without needing to navigate with a mouse just yet. This simplicity will empower her to focus on her learning without unnecessary distractions.
Additionally, I have a technical question: is it possible to configure the device to start with the Caps Lock key activated? This feature would be beneficial for her early writing exercises as she begins to explore uppercase letters.
