Revitalized my 12-year-old laptop with Ubuntu installation to create my 4-year-old’s very first device for learning to type and write.

Reviving My Old Laptop: A New Adventure for My Child

I recently took on the rewarding project of revitalizing my 12-year-old laptop, which is now ready for a new purpose: it’s going to be the first computer for my 4-year-old daughter! By installing Ubuntu, I’ve ensured it will run smoothly and provide her with a platform to learn typing and writing skills.

As I prepare this device for her use, I’m focused on making the transition as seamless as possible. One of my goals is to configure the laptop to automatically launch a text editor upon startup. This way, she won’t have to navigate the complexities of using a mouse just yet, allowing her to dive straight into her writing without any confusion.

Another question on my mind is whether it’s possible to set the computer to start with the Caps Lock key activated. This could be useful, especially for learning purposes, as it might help reinforce the importance of capitalization in writing.

If you have any advice or tips on these topics, or perhaps suggestions for a kid-friendly text editor to include, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Let’s make this journey a fun and fruitful one for her budding creativity.
