Feeling Stumped: An IT Professional’s Struggle to Solve This Mystery… (Variation 22)

Troubleshooting GPU Problems: A Frustrated IT Professional’s Dilemma

As an IT professional, encountering technical challenges is part of the job. However, sometimes even the most seasoned experts hit a wall. Recently, I acquired a used laptop equipped with an Nvidia 3060 GPU from my company. Initially, everything seemed to work seamlessly for two weeks, but then, out of the blue, the GPU ceased functioning.

In my pursuit to resolve the issue, I have undertaken a series of troubleshooting steps. I started by reinstalling the graphics drivers and updating the BIOS, believing that perhaps a recent change could be the culprit. When that didn’t yield results, I attempted to revert the BIOS and Windows updates, thinking they might be causing the malfunction. I even uninstalled the drivers and rolled back to older versions to see if previous configurations would restore functionality.

Despite my efforts, the GPU remains visible in the Device Manager, but it is not recognized by any applications or games. This disconnect has left me perplexed and seeking advice.

If you’ve experienced similar issues or have insights into potential solutions, I would greatly appreciate your input. What other avenues should I explore in troubleshooting this perplexing GPU problem? Your expertise could be the key to getting this laptop back up and running smoothly!
