Reviving an Old Laptop for a Young Learner: Ubuntu Setup for My Daughter

I recently undertook an inspiring project—reviving a 12-year-old laptop that had been gathering dust. After a bit of tinkering, I successfully installed Ubuntu on it, transforming it into a perfect starter laptop for my four-year-old daughter. This device will serve as her introduction to the digital world, where she can learn typing and develop her writing skills.

One of my primary goals is to make the experience as user-friendly as possible. I want her to focus on learning without the complexities of navigating using a mouse just yet. To achieve this, I’m exploring ways to have the laptop automatically open a text editor upon startup. This would allow her to dive right into writing without any distractions or needing to familiarize herself with mouse navigation initially.

Additionally, I have a couple of technical inquiries. Is it possible to configure the device to begin with the Caps Lock function enabled? This could potentially simplify her typing experience, especially as she gets accustomed to using the keyboard.
