Why does Task Manager only show 8GB of RAM when my PC shows 15.5GB usable out of 16GB? (Variation 9)

Understanding RAM Recognition Issues: A User’s Experience

Recently, I encountered an intriguing situation with my computer’s performance that left me scratching my head. While monitoring my system, I discovered that Task Manager was only identifying 8GB of my installed memory. Yet, my computer’s settings indicated that 15.5GB was usable out of a total of 16GB. This discrepancy raised a few questions about how my RAM was functioning.

During a recent project where I was rendering video while listening to music from YouTube, I began experiencing sound buffering issues. Initially, I attributed the problem to high GPU usage; however, further analysis revealed that my RAM was under significant strain. It was surprising to see that 3.4GB was categorized as “39% of my memory,” which did not seem accurate given my total RAM capacity.

To illustrate the scenario, I’ve shared a screenshot showing Task Manager alongside the “About my PC” information, which you can view here.

Curiously, I also noticed that while engaged in other intensive tasks like video editing, my system performed remarkably well, successfully managing to store large video files without any issues. This led me to wonder about the underlying factors contributing to this unusual RAM recognition and performance inconsistency.

Is anyone else facing a similar issue? What could be the reasons behind this unexpected RAM behavior, and how can I resolve it? I’m eager to hear any insights or solutions from the community.
